Our Rain Barrel Project

Following the success of last year’s program, Green Concord will be helping to promote the use of rain barrels in the community again in 2013.

In 2012 NH Lakes' Rain Barrel Project encouraged residents to use rain barrels to conserve and protect New Hampshire's freshwater. Green Concord helped by donating the costs of paints for participating schools.

Working with the Merrimack County Conservation District, NH LAKES and its partners visited classrooms and engaged students in interactive learning activities about how polluted water runoff from the landscape affects the environment and what can be done to reduce runoff. Participating classes decorated their own rain barrel - these barrels were displayed at Concord businesses for public judging during early summer 2012. Merrimack County residents were invited to purchase a rain barrel and paint it. A limited number of barrels were available for order at a discounted cost. Painted barrels were displayed at the Market Days Festival painting event and 6 were raffled off.
